the London Recorder Orchestra

The London Recorder Orchestra usually has 30-40 members but always welcomes new players. Prospective members should have a good standard of playing and sight-reading and be prepared to play any of the usual sizes of recorder (descant, treble, tenor or bass) as required. Players of larger instruments (great bass and contrabass recorders) are particularly welcome.
For more information about playing standards required, please contact our Director
Denis Bloodworth, 18 Pandora Ct, South Bank, Surbiton KT6 6DJ. 020 8399 8459

The orchestra normally rehearses from 10.30am - 1pm on the second Saturday of each month. Rehearsals are held at Macaulay School, Victoria Rise, Clapham, London SW4 and members are asked to pay a modest annual subscription of £25 (£12.50 concessions) to cover the hire of the hall.

At the end of each season (June/July) we usually give a concert conducted by Denis Bloodworth. The music played covers a wide range of styles and includes both 'in house' arrangements and original compositions. Sometimes we invite other groups to perform in the concert - either on their own or with the orchestra. If you are interested in seeing us in action, you will be very welcome at our next concert!

Our next concert will be at 7.30pm on Saturday 27th June 2009 at Holy Apostles Church Hall, Cumberland Street, London SW1. The programme includes:

Ludes Suite - Colin Hand
Sunrise Fantasy - William Lawes
The Lone Ar-ranger - Philip Buttall
Woodland Interlude - Edward Elgar
Newark Siege - John Jenkins
Symphony No2 - John Hawkes
Short Suite - A Melville

Tickets £7.00 (conc. £5.00) available at the door.
